Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative agent that is more commonly known as “laughing gas.” The sedative is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose and allows you to breathe normally. Within a few minutes of wearing the mask you should begin feeling the effects of the nitrous oxide; it is not intended to put you to sleep. It is meant to calm you and make you feel comfortable during dental procedures. During the time you’re exposed to this gas, you will still be able to hear and respond to the commands given to you.
Caring for our patients’ safety and comfort is a priority at Chris Childs Dentistry, and that is why we offer this treatment service as an option to our patients. Ask one of our helpful team members if nitrous oxide is a good option for you, should the need arise to visit our office for specific treatment.
