Many times, toothaches are caused by the presence of foreign matter in the mouth. For example, a chip gets caught between your tooth and gum. Or, food lodges itself between two teeth, and it can’t be removed. These types of situations are sure to lead to pain and discomfort.
Many people will tell you about “home remedies” that fix problems. At the end of the day, you shouldn’t trust your oral health, not to mention comfort, to an old wive’s tale. Put your faith in the team at Chris Childs Dentistry , as we know how to treat symptoms, alleviate pain and get you back to feeling like your old self again.
If the problem is more serious, possibly from a cracked, chipped or broken tooth, the pain can go up a notch. This is a time when you should definitely seek immediate attention, as it’s likely the toothache will only get worse.
One of the things we believe in promoting is proper oral hygiene: brush regularly, floss consistently and report problems to your dentist (early detection often leads to less-invasive treatment, thus lessening the time you have to live with pain).
However a toothache comes about, you want pain relief, you want remedy and you want treatment. Know that we practice gentle dentistry, and will do everything in our power to make you as comfortable as possible during treatment.
We will always make ourselves available to treat your toothaches, even if it’s an emergency. Call today to schedule an appointment.
If there is time between now and when you can see us, here are a few items that can help to reduce the pain:
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water
- Try to GENTLY floss the affected area to see if you can loosen food that may be lodged
- Do not put aspirin on your gums (an old wive’s tale)
- Take an over-the-counter pain reliever (as directed on the bottle)
- Utilize a cold compress, on the outside of the mouth, near the pain
